Job description

Job Title: On the Water Project Coordinator

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £32,250 gross per annum

Job type: Fixed term until 31st December 2025, full time 35hrs per week

Are you looking for a new opportunity? The Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) is a vibrant and growing charity delivering life changing nautical adventure for young people through the Sea Cadets to give them the best possible head start in life. We also provide personal and professional development opportunities for seafarers with the Marine Society. We are currently looking for an On The Water Project Coordinator to join our team.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on an externally funded outreach project providing hard to reach young people with the opportunity to try free boating sessions over the summer holidays. This role requires someone who is self-motivated, organised, creative, tenacious, positive, and IT competent with experience in project management. You need to be able to motivate and inspire your project team, ensuring that the project is on target through continuous monitoring and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate and ensure the delivery of the On the Water project
  2. Manage the temporary Project Assistants at Royal Docks, Midlands and Port Edgar Boat Stations
  3. Work with the Project Assistants and Growth and Development Workers to enable the effective recruitment of young people, particularly those facing difficulties or disadvantage
  4. Devise, plan and implement systems to record and report on the project's activity, progress and outcomes
  5. Manage the budget in accordance with the agreed expenditure targets
  6. Ensure the safe and smooth running of delivery in line with all internal policies
  7. Manage the evaluation, wrap up and future planning of the project
  8. Ensure the project meets its targets and funders have timely and accurate reports
  9. Develop robust monitoring and booking systems and ensure they are rolled out, understood, and used across all 3 sites
Requirements:

Essential:

  1. Experience of working with young people or community development in a wide variety of community groups
  2. Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating projects and/or activities
  3. Proven leadership skills
  4. Building partnerships
  5. Excellent internal and external stakeholders skills
  6. Line management responsibility
  7. Full Driving Licence

Desirable:

  1. Qualification in Project Management
  2. Line management of a remote team
