Job summary

Altilium, a UK-based battery recycling company, seeks a proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead on-site HSE delivery at our Plymouth pilot site. This hands-on role reports to the HSE Manager and focuses on practical safety improvement in a live chemical processing environment.

You will champion COSHH, maintain records, deliver training and embed ISO-aligned systems. The role requires NEBOSH General Certificate and strong knowledge of UK safety legislation.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate essential; Diploma or equivalent desirable.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation (HASAWA, COSHH, COMAH, DSEAR) and ISO standards.
• IOSH membership at an appropriate level, or willingness to obtain.
• COSHH experience in chemical processing environments.
• Clear, practical safety mindset with ability to translate concepts into action.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site health and safety delivery with continuous improvement.
• Identify gaps and drive corrective actions to close them.
• Champion COSHH management with training and monitoring.
• Collaborate with site teams to foster safety culture.
• Tailor ISO principles to a fast-moving, innovative environment.
• Streamline safety systems to support daily operations and scale-up.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain accurate records.
• Develop and deliver targeted training and toolbox talks.
