Job summary

Amey is seeking a General Building Operative/Facilities Assistant to join the National Highways account at Newton-le-Willows. The role is site-based with a 42-hour week, including 4-on/4-off shifts (days and nights). Salary is £14.12 per hour. BPSS security clearance is required.

You will handle admin tasks, site checks, PPMs and reactive works, and assist engineers with paperwork, health and safety, and basic maintenance duties, contributing to safe, reliable operations.

Qualifications

• Experience with administration, filing and record-keeping.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office suite for documentation and reporting.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety practices in a building environment.
• COSHH compliance knowledge is desirable.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform administration tasks using Microsoft Office programs.
• Communicate with suppliers via email and telephone.
• Conduct daily site checks and log action findings.
• Prepare site paperwork for Engineers/Operatives to undertake PPMs and reactive works.
• Support first line handling of reactive events (e.g., fire alarms, outages, maintenance).
• Ensure Health and Safety and COSHH compliance on site.
• Carry out general repairs and maintenance as required.
• Maintain building and grounds (clearing, cleaning, waste management, stocking).
