An established community service is seeking On-Call Firefighter Recruits to join the team at Seaford Community Fire Station. This role offers a unique opportunity to serve the community while balancing your day job. You'll need to be available for at least 40 hours per week and respond to emergencies within 5 minutes. Weekly training sessions will enhance your skills and teamwork. This is not just a job; it's a commitment to public safety and community service that brings immense personal rewards. If you're ready to make a difference, this is the role for you!
Seaford, your local fire station, is currently looking for ordinary people who can combine their day job with being on-call to provide cover for Fire and Rescue situations and emergencies. We are seeking individuals who can offer all cover.
On-Call Firefighters carry alerters when on duty and MUST be at the fire station, ready to respond within 5 minutes of the alerter sounding, traveling at normal road speeds, typically from home, friends, relatives, or their place of work.
The minimum hours required to become an On-Call Firefighter is 40 hours per week (hpw) or an average of 40 hpw over any period. If you work a shift pattern or varied hours in your primary employment, this can usually be accommodated. While hours are flexible depending on the station’s needs, you need to be available to respond for at least 40 hpw. This does not mean you are working for 40 hpw, just that you must be available if needed.
Your available hours will be reflected in your retaining rate (part of your salary). We have four pay bands:
Please see the attached document for further details about pay.
You are also required to attend a drill night once a week, usually lasting 2-3 hours, held on Wednesday evenings at 18:45 at Seaford Community Fire Station. You will train with the team and learn to maintain equipment. These hours count towards your minimum of 40 hpw.
During the application process, you will detail your available hours, which will form part of your contractual hours at the recruitment stage.
It’s a significant commitment but an immensely rewarding way to serve the community, keep the public safe, and earn extra income.
