Job description

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service

are seeking On-Call Firefighters based in various locations including Ashby (LE65 2GW), Coalville (LE67 3PU), Shepshed (LE12 9QE), Billesdon (LE7 9AA), Oakham (LE15 6BQ), Uppingham (LE15 9RL), Market Harborough (LE16 9QG), Kibworth (LE8 0HQ), Lutterworth (LE17 4DZ), Market Bosworth (CV13 0LT), and Loughborough (LE11 3GE) stations.

On-Call Firefighters will be paid an annual retaining fee relevant to the hours of availability provided. Salary ranges from £1,413.25 (Trainee), £1,472.10 - £4,416.30 (Development), to £1,883.75 - £5,651.25 (Competent) per annum, plus hourly rates of £12.91 - £17.20 and a disturbance fee of £4.96.

Please note that applicants need to live or work within four minutes of the station they are applying for, except for Market Bosworth and Billesdon, which is six minutes.

About the On-Call Firefighters Role:

Our On-Call Firefighters receive an annual retaining fee based on their hours of availability, ranging from a minimum of 24 hours per week (20% cover) to a maximum of 120 hours per week (100% cover). They also earn payments for disturbance, attending emergency calls, drill nights, and other duties. Responding to emergencies includes dealing with floods, road traffic accidents, and community fire safety education.

Skills and Experience Required:
  • Be at least 18 years old by the start of training.
  • Provide details of two referees, attend a medical, and undergo a criminal records check and right-to-work verification.
  • Attend all training sessions as scheduled.
