An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
The role may be called ‘part-time’, but on-call firefighters are trained, experienced, and on the front line, saving lives and protecting communities. They are paid for their services, receive thorough training, and learn skills related to emergency situations and personal development.
On-call firefighters come from all walks of life, including those at home, in employment, self-employed, students, or unemployed. They are dedicated individuals giving their time to support their communities.
This is a demanding role but offers the opportunity to make a real difference. You will build close relationships with team members, which is essential during emergencies, and participate in community events.
On-call firefighters respond to a variety of situations, including community fire safety, flooding, co-responding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience: No prior experience is necessary as we provide comprehensive training. Enthusiasm and meeting essential requirements are key. You must be able to reach the fire station quickly and safely after being alerted, which requires physical fitness.
Note: To be eligible, you must work and/or live within 4 minutes of the Fire Station; otherwise, your application will be rejected.
