Join Bedfordshire Fire Service as an On-Call Firefighter in Kempston!

We are seeking candidates who can provide weekend availability (Saturday and/or Sunday) to be considered for this position. Are you eager to gain unique skills and make a real difference in your community? Do you want a job that offers extra income and fits around your work and family commitments?

Role of an On-Call Firefighter

On-Call Firefighters respond to various operational incidents and contribute to Community Safety initiatives aimed at reducing fires, accidents, and injuries. They carry a pager and respond to emergency incidents as needed, working alongside dedicated professionals and community groups. Many on-call firefighters have primary jobs and provide evening, daytime, or weekend cover. When on call, they may be at home, working remotely, or nearby, staying within a six-minute travel time of the fire station (eight minutes for Woburn).

Availability and Compensation

We will discuss your availability early to ensure it meets Service needs. You will receive a retaining fee for your availability, plus additional payments for attending incidents, participating in community activities, and weekly drill nights.
