On-Call Firefighters are a crucial part of the Fire Service - they provide an efficient and effective emergency service to the community of Staffordshire.
On-Call Firefighters provide emergency response cover from either their home or work base. To be eligible to apply, you need to live or work close to a fire station. All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
After initial training, On-Call Firefighters attend weekly drill nights to maintain their skills, with additional training opportunities throughout the year. They also participate in community fire safety initiatives, including safe & well visits and school visits.
This self-assessment test will help you determine if a Firefighter career matches your skills and interests. If you answer 'yes' to all questions, it might be the right career for you.
You must live or work within five minutes of your local fire station to respond promptly. Visit your nearest station to confirm if you meet this criterion.
Many On-Call Firefighters are employed full-time elsewhere and have arrangements to leave work when called. Others serve during nights or weekends. The role is also suitable for unemployed individuals.
As an On-Call Firefighter, you will have a valued role in Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, earning the same respect and job satisfaction as full-time firefighters.
You will need to agree on a declaration of availability with your local Station Manager, which requires visiting the station, preferably on drill nights.
