Job summary

Latham & Watkins in London is seeking an OGC Lawyer – Compliance & Intake to support matter-opening compliance, review of global panel terms, and related negotiations within the Office of the General Counsel. The role combines advice, policy work, and client-facing collaboration.

Based in our London office with a flexible hybrid schedule, you will partner with partners, client contacts, and internal teams to manage risk, onboarding, and governance across matters globally.

Qualifications

• Qualified UK lawyer with active SRA status.
• Experience with conflicts, contract review, and compliance in a global law firm.
• Proven ability to draft and implement policies and procedures.
• Experience training junior team members.

About The Role

The OGC Lawyer – Compliance & Intake is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel team. This role will be responsible for compliance processes related to matter-opening, while coordinating the review of OCGs, RFPs, codes of conduct, and related terms and personally handling the review of the most complex requests, such as global panel terms and other multi-document, ongoing negotiations. This role will be located in our Londonoffice. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

• Serving as a conduit between firm subject matter experts, partners, and client contacts; liaising directly with client contacts on technical or compliance-related issues arising during engagement term negotiations in support of the client’s relationship partner
• Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of firm operations, including information governance/technology, client onboarding, human resources, codes of conduct, anti-corruption, and training procedures, sufficient to draft initial responses to client inquiries and *escalate* issues to internal stakeholders
• Developing expertise in the firm’s risk tolerance and business sensitivities and providing day-to-day support to OGC Managing Counsel – Compliance & Intake, Client Intake Committee, Ethics Committee, and other firm constituents relating to incoming new clients and matters or other areas that may present risk to the firm
• Ensuring ongoing extensive knowledge of the firm’s NBI workflow; supporting department personnel and firm constituents in the implementation and use of these systems
• Developing and maintaining substantive knowledge of the firm’s ethics wall policies, procedures, and software; reviewing and approving requested ethics walls to ensure they are necessary, sufficient, and appropriately drafted to address the firm’s compliance and client-relations needs

And have:

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• A law degree from an accredited law school
• An active bar membership or equivalent licensure in the U.K. (authorised to practice under the SRA)
• Relevant experience practicing law and/or working on a conflicts, contract review, compliance, information governance, or other similar administrative department team, in a global law firm setting, preferably
• Experience working directly with professional services firm clients
• Experience drafting, interpreting, and implementing policies and procedures
• Experience training junior team members on substantive and procedural issues
