The role blends office work with field duties and may involve travel to rivers, lakes and coastal sites, with some evenings and weekends.
This role is primarily focused on fisheries enforcement, helping to protect fish populations, fisheries resources and the wider water environment across Wales. The post holder investigates illegal fishing activity and other fisheries-related offences, gathers evidence, carries out surveillance, responds to incidents and complaints, and supports enforcement action where breaches of legislation are identified. While fisheries enforcement forms the majority of the role, there will also be opportunities to support wider waste enforcement investigations and operations. The role provides specialist enforcement expertise across the organisation and may involve presenting evidence in court to support legal proceedings.
Team and Working Environment
The post sits within a specialist waste and fisheries enforcement team, working closely with regulatory and operational colleagues, as well as partner organisations and enforcement agencies. The role combines office-based work with regular travel and fieldwork, including patrols, inspections and investigations at rivers, lakes, coastal locations and other environmental sites. Some evening, weekend and incident response work will be required.
Position Within the Organisation
This is a specialist enforcement role within Natural Resources Wales' environmental regulation and enforcement function. The role has a particular focus on fisheries enforcement while supporting wider waste enforcement activity when required. The post holder works with colleagues across the organisation, provides specialist advice and guidance, and reports to a manager within the enforcement and regulation service.
