Job description

Birkenhead School, awarded the Sunday Times Independent Secondary School of the Year in the North West for 2025, was founded in 1860. It is an HMC independent day school providing education for boys and girls drawn from the whole of the Wirral, Liverpool and as far afield as Chester and North Wales.Situated in the leafy suburb of Oxton, the School enjoys excellent facilities. The Role And Responsibilities

The role is based in the Prep Office. Responsible to the Head of Prep, but reporting to the Head of Preps PA on a day to day basis, the successful candidate will be required to provide excellent customer care, administration and secretarial support to the Head of Preps PA, Teaching staff, Head of Prep and Deputy Head of Prep. The role is a varied one and will require good secretarial and administration skills, and an excellent telephone manner and customer care skills.

Key Responsibilities

To undertake essential Prep Office administration, assisting the daily running of the Prep Office, including manning the Reception Desk, handling incoming telephone calls, welcoming visitors, daily registers, typing correspondence, keeping the Schools database updated by inputting and updating School records.

Key Duties

  • To provide high standards of consistent, efficient admin support
  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of all pupils at School
  • To liaise with other staff, including Head of Prep, teaching staff, the Bursar and Head of Preps PA
  • To provide high standards of service and care to parents, pupils, staff and visitors
  • To respond to correspondence by telephone, emails, and face to face as necessary
  • Assist in the creation and production of materials and communications for School events, such as Christmas services, drama productions, Prize-giving events and Sports Days

This is a part-time, term-time post of 24 hours per week, anticipated to be over 3 days (Monday to Wednesday) working 36 weeks per year, usually between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm.
