Ocean Staff Engineer

Triton's Ocean Systems is a fast-paced, interdisciplinary engineering team focused on bringing ideas from concept to reality in the ocean domain. We work on a variety of projects, including uncrewed systems (unmanned underwater vehicles, surface craft, launch and recovery systems), marine systems (submarine/shipboard equipment, diver equipment), and ocean sensing systems (sensors and signal processing).

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and entrepreneurial engineer passionate about developing advanced technologies and translating them into real-world applications. Our diverse projects offer experience across the engineering spectrum, including platforms such as UUVs, underwater robotics, fiber optics, and subsea structures. Relevant background in underwater robotics hardware, subsea structures, hydraulic systems, and analytical methods is desirable.

Responsibilities

  1. Self-starter with the ability to recognize and creatively solve complex problems.
  2. Design and prototype cutting-edge ocean systems, including CAD modeling.
  3. Perform experiments independently and inventively.
  4. Document project progress thoroughly.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ocean Engineering: materials selection and subsea structures.
  • Marine robotic vehicles: design, fabrication, testing, sensor integration, troubleshooting.
  • Electrical Engineering: hardware or software development.
  • Experience designing or specifying hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with launch & recovery systems and offshore marine operations.
  • Microcontroller programming experience with platforms such as Arduino, Nucleo, MSP-430.
  • Experience with in-water, at-sea, or field testing.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.
  • Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • ECAD design skills with Altium or equivalent.

Education/Experience

  • BS in Ocean, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • 0-3 years experience in ocean product design, prototype fabrication, and testing preferred.
