A regional healthcare provider in Dawlish seeks an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to support individuals with learning disabilities and autism. This is an excitingopportunity to for an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to join theteam at the new Regional Learning Disability and Autism Unit in Dawlish frommid-2025 (The Brook). The new regional service based in Dawlishwill offer inpatient support to both adults with a learning disability andautistic adults. The building and environment will be state of the art and theservice aims to become a centre of excellence.
Our work is integralto the evidence based care pathways, contributing to the formulation andplanning of Positive Proactive Support Plans, Reducing Restrictive Practice, stoppingover medication of people with a learning disability (STOMP), trauma informedcare and much more. We have a strong role in supporting the development ofcapable environments around the needs of our client group. Our core business asan Occupational Therapy team is assessment and intervention to promoteengagement in meaningful occupations to maximise health and wellbeing.
We have excellent clinical leadership andsupervision structures; hold regular Occupational Therapy meetings whichinclude linking in with the wider trust AHPs, and encourage regular CPD and learningopportunities to develop skills across a variety of areas.
Interview dates are planned for 19th August & also 21st August 2025 if an additional day is required.
We are looking foran imaginative, creative and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy TechnicalInstructor to work with people with learning disabilities and autistic adultsdisplaying distressed behaviour who have complex needs. The post holder willfocus on supporting assessment and providing Occupational Therapy interventions,under the guidance and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, that improvepeoples wellbeing and quality of life by promoting engagement in meaningful activityand inclusion in their community.
The post holderwill pro-actively work alongside the Occupational Therapist, within the multi-disciplinaryteam contributing to care planning, risk management and the planning andorganisation of daily activities on the ward.The post holder will participate in the internal rotation systemincluding weekend working and will receive the paid enhancements associatedwith this.
The post holderwill be encouraged to be innovative and motivated in contributing to the developmentof the Occupational Therapy service.
Shift patterns for this post are on a 6-week rolling roster, with the following proposed pattern
The shifts will be 10 hour shifts that cover between 07.30and 20.30.

Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist in the inpatient team, the post holder will be expected to use technical and creative skills to assist in the delivery of a flexible, person centred programmed of therapeutic activities for adults with a learning disability and Autistic adults.
