Job description

Secondment opportunity until September 2026. Split post across acute stroke Aintree and ESD/LSRP BGH. A very rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to work with the North Mersey Stroke Service with the acute stroke team and the Liverpool Stroke recovery partnership/ESD team. You will provide early intervention assessment, treatment planning and rehabilitation to stroke survivors.

Patient care will require creative thinking, problem solving and providing of equipment/adaptations to support them to remain in their own home, adjust to meeting care needs in the community and avoid hospital re-admission or 24hr care. You will be part of a supportive MDT working alongside medics, AC/ANPs physios, nurses, Speech therapists, dietitians, therapy assistants and assistant practitioners with access to stroke consultants when required.

Responsibilities:
  • Expert assessment and rehabilitation of complex stroke patients including neurological assessment and rehabilitation techniques, cognitive assessment and rehab skills, transfer equipment & posture management, splinting, fatigue management, anxiety management and support with returning to drive/work.
  • Training and support of the Stroke MDT in the management of the complex patient.
  • Develop and promote the role of the Occupational Therapist within Stroke including service development projects and outcome reporting.
  • Audit of the service against local and national standards in close partnership with the management team.
  • Training and support of junior staff members across the stroke pathway.
  • Senior oversight of a therapy team including aspects such as performance reporting, sickness management and supervision.
  • Participation in the Stroke Network.
  • Participation in national audit and research projects.
  • Ensure adherence to governance processes including datix and complaint investigations.
  • Support staff with health, wellbeing and sickness management.
Requirements:
  • BSc or Diploma in OT.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Specialist post-registration qualification.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Demonstrable postgraduate clinical experience.
  • Active experience in audit.
  • Supervision of staff and students.
  • Teaching of junior staff.
  • Experience of working with other agencies.
  • Experience in clinical speciality.
