We are looking to employ a dynamic, compassionate and aspirational individual for the role of Occupational Therapy Assistant in our Acute Medicine service. The post holder will work as part of the Medicine Therapy Team, supporting functional assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning to patients during their inpatient stay. The successful applicant will be passionate about delivering high quality patient care and outcomes. You will require excellent communication skills to build rapport with patients, their relatives / carers and the multidisciplinary team. You will have sound IT skills and demonstrate the Trust's values of Compassion, Aspiration, Resourcefulness and Excellence. Regular appraisal, supervision and support will be given to develop you as an individual in the therapy team with many opportunities to progress further. You will work alongside senior colleagues to implement new initiatives to continue to develop the service in line with best practice and clinical guidelines.,

  • To be an occupational therapy assistant working to assist the occupational therapists in the therapeutic management of patients for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Hospital (RBFT).
  • Under supervision to facilitate and participate in ongoing patient treatment and assessment.
  • Under supervision of OT, adjustment of own clinical interventions based on the fluctuating needs of the patient.
  • Assist in the implementation, evaluation and modification of OT.
  • To work effectively as a team member in carrying out, under direction, assessment of patient's functional activities including personal care assessments, meal preparation and assisting on home visits when required.
  • To participate in providing a high quality, effective and efficient occupational therapy service.
  • Under supervision of a registered OT, provide a range of activities, instructing and guiding patients, individually or in groups, to support them in achieving identified goals and promoting independence.
  • To undertake delegated tasks to contribute to the safe and smooth. running of the service.
  • To carry out outreach and community work , under supervision of OT.
  • Driving for access visits and home visits in lease car.

    Education to GCSE level including English and Maths
  • NVQ or equivalent in Health and Social Care field
  • Proven experience in a Health or social care setting, demonstrating experience of assisting with personal care activities.

  • IT skills including word and e-mail use
