Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Community Occupational Therapy Service is expanding!

We have a part time (30 hours) Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) posts available Melton and Rutland. We are very excited to be able to offer these opportunities to new or existing OTAs.

The role of an OTA is a hugely rewarding and diverse career. You will be assisting our lovely team of Occupational Therapists and Assistants, supporting and encouraging our patients in their recovery journey and delivering person-centred interventions in a wide range of local community settings as well as the patient’s own homes.

As you will be working on your own within patients homes, it is essential you have experience in healthcare. You will also be caring and encouraging, have great communication skills and be able to demonstrate qualities such as compassion, initiative and most of all be able to work as part of a team! Successful candidates will have a knowledge of mental health conditions relevant to MHSOP’s patient group and an understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy and how this supports a person’s health and well-being.

The Occupational Therapy service is delivered very much as part of a multi-disciplinary team and post holders will be working alongside other mental health professionals to deliver integrated care which is very much in collaboration with the patient and their wider care network. The successful candidates will be working under the supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist as well as alongside other OTA’s within the service.

The MHSOP Community Occupational Therapy Service provides a range of training and career development opportunities including access to the apprenticeship programmes, subject to funding applications and suitability. As a service we also offer regular clinical and management supervision as well as a yearly appraisal and encourage attendance to regular wellbeing events .

It is essential as a community assistant that you are confident driver with a full UK driving license and access to a car throughout your working day.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate the Trust’s values in everything you do in the work environment, being responsible in the use and expenditure of the Trust’s resources that you utilise. Delivery of Effective Healthcare within the organisation, Working under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist, organise and coordinate appropriate activities for patients referred to the service in line with occupational therapy philosophy .This will include working with individuals and organising group activities and will include accompanying patients to community facilities.

The post holder will work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that activity provision meets the identified needs of the client and is in line with the individual care plan, to assist in assessing service user’s clinical presentation, their therapeutic needs and abilities with other members of the MDT using appropriate standardised models. To feedback observations of clients involvement in activities to the Occupational Therapist and the members of the MDT. This will be written and verbal and will contribute to the patient’s care plan

To liaise with carers, outside agencies, volunteers, hospitals and community resources to facilitate the implementation of clinical interventions, supporting and encouraging carers and support staff to organise appropriate activities in addition to those provided by the OT team ensuring that activities are provided in a culturally sensitive manner
