Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Location: Westminster, London

Pay Rate: £32.50 per hour

Contract Type: Temporary

Hours: Full-time, 9am–5pm

Caseload: Complex cases, including clients with multiple physical, cognitive, and environmental challenges.

About the role:

Pertemps is seeking a skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Adult Social Care team in Westminster. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred interventions for residents with complex needs, supporting them to live safely and independently in their homes through functional assessments, equipment provision, and major adaptations.

Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct in-depth home visits to assess functional needs, environmental risks, and suitability for adaptations or equipment.
  2. Complete manual handling assessments, including risk assessments and safe handling plans involving hoists, slings, and transfer aids.
  3. Prescribe and oversee major adaptations (e.g., level access showers, stairlifts, ramps, through-floor lifts) in collaboration with housing and DFG teams.
  4. Provide clinical reasoning and justification for high-cost equipment and structural changes, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
  5. Liaise with contractors, surveyors, and housing officers to ensure adaptations meet client needs and are delivered safely and effectively.
  6. Support hospital discharge planning and hospital avoidance by ensuring timely provision of essential equipment and adaptations.
  7. Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to legal reports, safeguarding enquiries, and funding panels.
  8. Deliver supervision and peer support to junior staff, promoting safe manual handling practices and reflective learning.
  9. Act as the main point of contact for service users throughout the adaptation process, offering advice, advocacy, and support.
  10. Work collaboratively with partner agencies and internal teams to ensure coordinated service delivery.

Qualifications:
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Enhanced DBS (required prior to start).
  • Proven experience in local authority settings and working with vulnerable adults.
  • Knowledge of equipment provision, minor and major adaptations, and relevant legislation.
