Job Description:

  1. Assess, review, and monitor the needs of adults and children with physical impairments and their carers, in line with the legislative framework underpinning Occupational Therapy (OT) practice within a local authority setting.
  2. Adhere to the social model of independence, the College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics, and meet Health and Care Professions Council standards for conduct and practice.
  3. Maximize the desired level of independence of the service user.
  4. Prescribe service provision following policies, procedures, and within financial/resource budgets.
  5. Contribute to the development and planning of OT services.
  6. Manage a complex caseload with clear service objectives, determining appropriate levels and durations of OT intervention, and maintain records as specified.
  7. Participate in the duty rota, assess eligibility for services, and prioritize care pathways for referrals.
  8. Assess functional abilities and needs of users of all ages with physical impairments; plan and implement OT interventions adhering to policies, procedures, and legislation.
  9. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and agencies to clarify clients' needs.
  10. Apply evidence-based practice and relevant medical knowledge for eligibility and intervention decisions.
  11. Assess carers' needs and offer guidance and support strategies.
  12. Use creative and problem-solving approaches for clinical decisions.
  13. Implement reablement and training on coping strategies for daily activities.
  14. Demonstrate and instruct on the safe use, fitting, and maintenance of equipment, including risk assessments and manual handling plans.
  15. Follow ordering processes for aids to daily living, liaise with suppliers for equipment demonstrations, considering financial constraints.
  16. Undertake moving and handling assessments, develop care plans, and ensure safe practices.
  17. Provide assessments and reports for housing and care facilities, liaise with Housing Department for suitable accommodations.
  18. Recommend major adaptations, prepare specifications, and liaise with stakeholders for project completion.
  19. Facilitate applications for care placements, participate in development initiatives, and maintain knowledge of medical conditions, equipment, benefits, and legal frameworks.
  20. Contribute to service development, participate in staff meetings, and share knowledge.
  21. Participate in supervision, maintain professional development, and support new staff induction.
