Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to support inpatient and community pathways in paediatrics. You will join a multidisciplinary team across wards including Trauma, Orthopaedics, Neurology and Burns with a focus on assessment, intervention and safe discharge planning.
We value reflective practice, client-centred care and the development of your clinical reasoning and OT skills.
Can you persuade a 2 year old to take a break from Bluey so that you can assess their hand strength? Can you assess a child for the equipment they need to get safely discharged from hospital whilst holding your own in a discussion about which Avenger is the best at defeating baddies? We need an individual who can bring occupational therapy assessment, intervention and outcome measurement to life for our patients. Our passionate team will support you to develop your occupational therapy skills, clinical reasoning and reflective practice. Our patients will teach you about the importance of being client centred and how to solve problems creatively. This Band 5 post is a rotational post, working within our acute inpatients (including Trauma and Orthopaedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Respiratory), Hands and Upper Limb, Burns and Plastics and Rheumatology teams. You will be given an opportunity to work in a vibrant and dynamic environment, committed to developing your skills, including assessment, intervention, prescribing equipment, complex discharge planning and general rehabilitation. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, flexible and motivated to learn with excellent interpersonal skills. A passion for working with children, young people and their families is essential.
The postholder will be a member of the Occupational Therapy team and work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team within the hospital. Duties may include in-patient and out-patient work, taking place on Trust premises or occasionally within the community setting. The Occupational Therapy Service works with children, young people and their families. Assessment and treatment are carried out in numerous settings including the Occupational Therapy department, hospital ward, or home/community settings. The Occupational Therapist develops the child and young person's ability to master self-help, work and play skills using purposeful activity and adapted techniques and equipment to assist performance. This post is in Birmingham Childrens Hospital where you will work with a wide range of MDT colleagues and community service providers. A Senior Occupational Therapist will provide regular support and supervision. The Head of Occupational Therapy will be available as necessary.
