Job summary

sjb medical is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join as Deputy Manager for an integrated therapy service across our education partners. You will lead a team of Occupational Therapists, Apprentices and Therapy Assistants, manage a clinical caseload and drive service development with multidisciplinary colleagues.

The role requires HCPC registration, a degree in Occupational Therapy, at least four years post-qualification experience including senior exposure, and specialist

Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Minimum of four years post-qualification experience, including at least two years in a senior or specialist role.
  • Experience with complex disabilities in children and young adults.
  • Experience providing supervision and professional development to OT staff.
  • RCOT membership.
  • Previous management or team-leader experience.
  • Specialist qualifications (e.g., Sensory Integration, postural management, hand therapy).
  • Experience with audits, governance, and service development.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operational management of the Occupational Therapy service.
  • Deputise for the OT Manager when required.
  • Provide supervision and leadership to OT staff and apprentices.
  • Coordinate OT provision across sites to ensure high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Lead staff development, mentoring, placements and workforce growth initiatives.
  • Contribute to service development, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Manage your own clinical caseload while overseeing therapy programmes and student assessments.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated

Occupational Therapy Deputy Manager to support the leadership and development of our Occupational Therapy service across the business. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Occupational Therapist who is ready to take the next step in their leadership career while continuing to make a direct difference to the lives of learners with complex physical disabilities, autism and learning disabilities.

Working closely with the Occupational Therapy Manager, you will play a key role in leading, developing and supporting a team of Occupational Therapists, Apprentices and Therapy Assistants while helping to ensure the delivery of exceptional, evidence-based therapy services.

About the Role

As Occupational Therapy Deputy Manager, you will:

  • Support the day-to-day operational management of the Occupational Therapy service.
  • Deputise for the Occupational Therapy Manager when required.
  • Provide supervision, support and leadership to Occupational Therapists, Apprentices and Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  • Help coordinate Occupational Therapy provision across multiple sites to ensure learners receive high-quality, person-centred support.
  • Lead on staff development, mentoring, placements, apprenticeships and workforce growth initiatives.
  • Contribute to service development, quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support specialist practice areas including sensory integration, postural management, upper limb function and specialist equipment provision.
  • Manage your own clinical caseload while overseeing therapy programmes and student assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues, families and external professionals to achieve excellent outcomes for learners.
  • Promote independence, wellbeing and achievement in line with learners' EHCP outcomes and long-term aspirations.
About You

You will be an enthusiastic and highly skilled Occupational Therapist with significant experience in supporting individuals with complex disabilities and a passion for developing others.

  • Degree-level qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Minimum of four years' post-qualification experience, including at least two years in a senior or specialist role.
  • Extensive experience working with individuals with complex physical disabilities, autism and learning disabilities.
  • Experience providing supervision, coaching and professional development to Occupational Therapy staff.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment and intervention skills.
  • Excellent report writing and communication abilities.
  • Experience of performance management processes, including supervision, development reviews and probationary support.
  • RCOT membership.
  • Previous management or team leader experience.
  • Specialist qualifications in areas such as Sensory Integration, 24-hour postural management, hand therapy or related fields.
  • Experience of audit, governance and service development projects.
  • Experience working within education settings or with children and young adults as part of a multidisciplinary team.
