Our Learning Disability and Autism Service is dedicated to providing person-centred services that empower adults with learning disabilities and/or autism in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES). We are excited to offer a Band 7 Occupational Therapist role within our Complex Health Needs Service (CHNS), a dynamic and multidisciplinary team of specialist healthcare professionals. In this role, you will provide assessment, therapeutic interventions, and support for adults with learning disabilities, complex health needs, and autism, while contributing to innovative, evidence-based initiatives that enhance quality of life and wellbeing.

This is a part-time role working 30 hours per week which involves regular community visits from your base location in Carrswood Day Services, Bath. Core hours for the service are 06:00 to 20:00, with typical working hours being Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00. You will work flexibly between your home and the office base, ensuring the best support for the individuals you serve.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 Occupational Therapist your days will be varied but responsibilities may include:

1. Manage a Complex Caseload: Use advanced clinical reasoning to deliver evidence-based, client-centred occupational therapy assessments and interventions for individuals with complex needs.
2. Community-Based Interventions: Conduct assessments and deliver interventions across community settings, including family homes, residential and supported living services, day services, and community facilities.
3. Specialist Risk Assessments: Undertake and advise on complex risk assessments, addressing moving and handling, daily living activities, and community safety to ensure effective risk management.
4. Support Planning and Collaboration: Develop person-centred support plans in partnership with service users, carers, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring an integrated and comprehensive care approach.
5. Equipment and Environmental Adaptations: Assess, recommend, and implement adaptive equipment and environmental modifications to promote independence and safety.
6. Leadership and Supervision: Provide professional guidance and supervision to junior therapists, assistant practitioners, and support staff, acting as a clinical expert within the service.
7. Service Improvement and Professional Development: Contribute to service reviews, audits, and policy development while maintaining professional competence through CPD, research, and lifelong learning.

Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy from an RCOT or WFOT-approved training establishment, with current HCPC registration.

Experience: Clinical experience in learning disabilities and additional complex needs such as physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and mental health conditions.

Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Proven experience of working within an MDT, contributing to team decision-making, and collaborating effectively.

Specialist Knowledge: Interest or experience in areas such as dementia, sensory integration, autism, and learning disabilities, with evidence of relevant training.

Communication Skills: Experience working with families and carers, maintaining effective communication in challenging situations, and keeping accurate and legible client notes in line with standards.

Professional Development: Evidence of a CPD portfolio and the ability to identify and address own learning needs through reflective practice and supervision.
