About the Site

Cygnet Oaks is a 35-bed service specializing in high-support inpatient rehabilitation for men, offering a multidisciplinary treatment program aimed at aiding individuals' return to independent living. The service comprises two wards: the Lodge (20 beds) and the House (15 beds), each supporting different stages of recovery and care pathways.

The Lodge functions as an admission ward where most service users begin their recovery journey, often stepping down from acute or low secure services. The House provides ongoing support for individuals progressing along their care pathway, including a 4-bed step-through service designed to prepare individuals for community placement.

Our dedicated clinical teams deliver comprehensive multidisciplinary programs, including occupational therapy, psychology, and psychiatry, to help service users stabilize and reintegrate into society. Our occupational therapy department focuses on engaging service users in meaningful occupations, overcoming barriers to activity participation, and developing skills for independent living through a tailored therapy program involving self-care, productive, and leisure activities.

The occupational therapy pathway includes different treatment stages, with interventions adapting as clients progress. Located near Barnsley town center, the service provides access to local community facilities and pathways that link short-term care goals with community activities to promote social inclusion.

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Led by our occupational therapy directors, we support over 150 occupational therapists and 300 support staff across the group. The team collaborates on service development, participates in specialist interest groups, and contributes to evidence-based practice and occupational therapy pathways. Each service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to guide practice and ensure staff have a voice in service model development.

Preceptorship & Induction

We recognize the importance of comprehensive induction and preceptorship programs to support new staff, especially in the context of ongoing pandemic challenges.
