Job summary

3D Recruit is working with Wokingham Borough Council to recruit an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist for the Children with Disabilities Team. The role focuses on specialist equipment, adaptations and promoting independence for children and young people with disabilities.

The role offers hybrid working, with a minimum of two days per week in the office, alongside home and community visits. A supportive consultant will assist throughout the placement.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy required.
  • Current HCPC registration required.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes.
  • Good working knowledge of legislation underpinning OT services for children and young people in a social care setting.
  • Experience working as a Paediatric OT within a Local Authority.
  • Experience identifying the need for specialist and complex equipment.
  • Experience managing minor and major adaptations from recommendation through to completion.
  • Ability to read architects' plans and think creatively when recommending amendments.
  • Experience working effectively with a range of professionals and partner agencies.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Ability to complete an enhanced DBS check as required.

Responsibilities

  • Arranging specialist equipment and adaptations and demonstrating their correct use to parents and carers.
  • Identifying when major adaptations are required and advising families throughout the adaptation process.
  • Liaising with Grants Officers, surveyors, architects, builders and other professionals to ensure adaptations meet assessed needs.
  • Completing housing needs reports and providing recommendations where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate case notes, assessments, risk assessments, care plans and reviews on the electronic database.
  • Participating in joint working, meetings and multi-agency discussions relating to children and young people on your caseload.
  • Referring to other professionals and services where appropriate.
  • Carrying out home visits and site visits to properties undergoing adaptations.
  • Supporting the safe and effective use of specialist equipment.

As an Occupational Therapist within the Children with Disabilities Team, you’ll provide specialist assessment, equipment and adaptation services to children and young people with disabilities across the Wokingham area.
