Hello, my name is Judith Megson, I am the team manager forthe older adult community mental health team (CMHT) in Kirklees.

We are seeking to recruit anOccupational Therapist to cover maternity leave (until mid-February 2026). Weare looking for someone who matches ourvalues and who can support us to continue to provide high standards ofassessment, treatment and care to our service users, to enable them to livewell in their community.

This is an excitingopportunity for an Occupational Therapist who can work in a flexible,innovative and creative way. The role is based in Huddersfield working Mondayto Friday 9am-5pm. The team has 2 geographical bases, and you are required todeliver a mental health/OT service Kirklees wide. A car driver is thereforeessential.

You would require a broadrange of experience and ability to joint work as part of a multidisciplinaryteam, manage a varied caseload predominately OT focused, carry out initialassessments, undertake duty worker role, demonstrate clinical decision-makingskills and to think creatively on your feet as both a generic practitioner andan OT.

A robust induction plan,training opportunities and regular supervision will be provided to promotecareer progression and personal well-being.

Main duties of the job

As part of amulti-disciplinary team undertake a duty worker role and be responsible fortriaging referrals, completing evidence-based assessments and deliver highquality therapeutic interventions to address the needs of the service user.

Give support to the serviceuser/family/carer and interpret the assessment results to plan and implement aclient centred treatment programme to achieve therapeutic goals.

The post will involvepatient-facing visits in the community and responsibility of your ownOccupational therapy caseload. Where clinical demand arises Care coordinatorrole maybe required.

You will ensure therapeuticinterventions are of a high professional standard, informed by evidence-basedpractice and involves the service user/carer in all aspects of the careprogramme.

You will be able to respondflexibly and creatively to challenges and participate in appropriate clinicalteam meetings, referral meetings, case conferences, care programme approachmeetings and any other as required by clinical demand and as directed.

Maintain professionalregistration/demonstrate commitment to statutory codes of practice andcontinued professional development requirements.

Job responsibilities

The post holderwill be required to work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinaryteam, providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment forservice users in receipt of care from community services. Enabling service users to engage in a rangeof individual and group community based treatment activities. You will be actively involved in thepromotion of occupational therapy within the service area. The post holder will be required towork flexibly to meet the needs of the service and the client group.

Toundertake specific standardised and non-standardised assessments to formulateeffective treatment plans in conjunction with the service user, family andcarer.

Tointerpret the assessment results in order to plan and implement a clientcentred occupational therapy treatment programme on an individual and/or groupbasis using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

Toensure therapeutic interventions are of a high professional standard, informedby evidence based practice and involves the service user and carer in allaspects of the care programme.

Todemonstrate knowledge and understanding of the effect of disability providingtraining and advice on lifestyle changes/adaptations to the clients social andphysical environments.

Toact as the care programme co-ordinator as required and to offer carers anassessment and care plan where appropriate.

Tocontribute to a co-ordinated team approach throughout the assessment and inmeeting the service users needs including developing and maintaining closeworking relationships with all relevant services, and agencies within thevoluntary sector.

Toregularly evaluate the effectiveness of group and individual occupationaltherapy interventions by undertaking specific audits and using outcome measuressuch as standardised / other relevant assessments and service user satisfactionquestionnaires.

Tocontinue treatment interventions where necessary to assist in the transition ofskills from an inpatient setting to living independently within the community.

Towork effectively within the multi-agency team ensuring that both written andverbal communication is clearly maintained to ensure a seamless service.

Tobe responsible for the maintenance of appropriate clinical records concernedwith service user treatment, in accordance with risk management documentationguidelines.

Toarrange/attend appropriate clinical team meetings, referral meetings, caseconferences, care programme approach meetings and any other as required byclinical need and as direct by the Line/Service Manager.

Toprovide accurate and timely reports, statistical data through the electronic recordingsystem and other information as required.

Toparticipate in monthly clinical and managerial supervision and to provideclinical supervision to other occupational therapy staff/ support staff.
