Job overview

Surrey and Borders is looking for an Occupational Therapist who delivers high quality and evidence based occupational therapy assessments, interventions and consultations to enable people who access services to reach their full potential.

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday from 9am to 17pm

Main duties of the job

The occupational therapy leadership team is committed to an extensive, co-ordinated CPD programme including a robust supervision structure, care group meetings, Trust wide and core competence training and an annual conference. Staff is valued for their expertise in occupationally focussed interventions and specialist group therapy.

This post is suitable if you have had previous experience of working in mental health, you want to consolidate your knowledge of occupational therapy and be involved in delivering high quality, evidence based, outcome measured occupational therapy interventions. This post also gives you an opportunity to develop skills in care coordinating service users with an occupational therapy focus and being part of the assessment team.

The candidate must have a full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes due to the community element of this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Overview

  1. To provide high quality and evidence based occupational therapy assessment and interventions, both group and individual, to people who access services and their carers/supporters/family members, in line with the occupational therapy pathways.
  2. To communicate effectively with people who access services, carers, the multi-disciplinary team and when appropriate outside agencies.
  3. To contribute to the generic functioning of the team.
  4. To provide supervision and mentoring to more junior occupational therapists, occupational therapy apprenticeships, support workers and activities coordinators, and therapy assistants (as appropriate)
  5. To provide occupational therapy student placements.
  6. To contribute to service development and audits.
  7. To take on the role of lead professional for individuals care as appropriate.


The job will be within our Waverley Neighbourhood Mental Health service and be working across Serious Mental Illness/Complex Emotional Needs and Frailty/Later life pathways, The postholder will be expected to work flexibly to support the provision of the OT care pathway across the locality.
