Job description

Are you an experienced Occupational Health Physician looking for a varied, safety-critical role where your expertise will directly impact workforce health, safety, and wellbeing?

We’re working with a leading transport organisation to find a dedicated Occupational Health Physician to join their in-house OH team. This is a key position, combining clinical excellence with strategic input to maintain compliance, promote wellbeing, and ensure employees are fit for safety-critical work.

About the Role

You’ll work closely with the Occupational Health Lead Nurse, the OH & Wellbeing Operations Manager, and other internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality OH services, provide expert medical advice, and support the continuous development of occupational health standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct safety-critical, pre-placement, and periodic medicals

  • Perform HAVS Tier 3 and 4 assessments and drug/alcohol screening

  • Manage complex case reviews, sickness absence, and return-to-work plans

  • Provide medical guidance on fitness for duty, workplace adjustments, and redeployment

  • Contribute to health promotion campaigns and wellbeing initiatives

  • Support audits, SEQOHS accreditation, and clinical governance processes

  • Mentor and provide guidance to OH team members and operational colleagues

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and absence management reviews

What We’re Looking For
  • GMC-registered Occupational Health Physician

  • Minimum Diploma in Occupational Medicine (Dip Occ Med) – higher qualifications such as AFOM, MFOM, or FFOM welcomed

  • ORR Registered Doctor (preferred) or willingness to achieve registration

  • Proven experience in a safety-critical environment, ideally within rail or transport

  • Strong knowledge of UK health & safety law, OH legislation, and SEQOHS standards

  • Skilled in clinical governance and confidential medical record keeping

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making skills
