Job summary

Kent Police is seeking an Occupational Health Adviser to join the Health and Wellbeing Team in Maidstone. The role provides expert guidance to HR, managers and staff on attendance, fitness for work and reasonable adjustments, within a multidisciplinary setting.

You will contribute to health surveillance, workplace assessments and wellbeing initiatives. Applicants should hold an OH qualification (Certificate/Diploma/Degree), be an RGN with NMC Part 3 registration, and have 2–3 years of OH

  • Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in Occupational Health.

Job description

Kent Police are seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Health Adviser to join our multidisciplinary Health and Wellbeing Team. This role is key in delivering a comprehensive, high-quality occupational health service. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with medical standards and Health & Safety legislation, while promoting the health and wellbeing of our workforce in a supportive, advisory capacity. As an Occupational Health Adviser, you will:

  • Provide professional advice and support to HR, line managers, and employees on attendance management, fitness for work, and reasonable adjustments.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support individuals while meeting organisational needs and operational demands.
  • Support Kent and Essex Police in fulfilling statutory obligations under the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Police (Health & Safety) Act 1997, including health surveillance, screening and workplace assessments.
  • Liaise with General Practitioners, NHS services, specialist practitioners and external organisations to support employee wellbeing and manage complex cases.
  • Represent Occupational Health at meetings and forums, providing expert guidance on health, safety and wellbeing matters.
  • Promote access to wider wellbeing services, including physiotherapy, counselling and wellbeing support.
  • Contribute to induction programmes and deliver training, coaching, and awareness sessions on occupational health and wellbeing.
  • Lead or support health promotion initiatives and wellbeing campaigns to encourage attendance and resilience. Registered General Nurse (RGN) status.
  • A Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health.
  • NMC Part 3 registration.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years' experience in Occupational Health.
