Applications are being sought to join our Undergraduate Medical Academy team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is 0.6 Whole Time Equivalence (that is 24 hours/week). Applicants will have completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis, at least two years of which will be in a relevant specialty. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at CT/ST3 in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted including time within a relevant training programme. You should also hold full registration with the GMC prior to commencing employment in this post.
Main duties of the job
This is one of a series of posts focusing on undergraduate teaching of medical students at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. This role, is designed to support the teaching of undergraduate medical students attending for Obstetrics and Gynaecology placements.
This 12-month post is suitable for more senior trainees with existing educational experiences whose career would be advanced by the opportunity to further develop their interest in education and teaching. This might be of interest to registered practitioners who are studying for a higher qualification, or writing up research. It may also appeal to higher trainees who wish to take time out of a training programme, subject to the approval of the appropriate Specialist Training Committee. Remuneration for hours will be pro-rota at the appropriate point on the nationally agreed specialty pay scale for daytime duties. Successful candidates will be required to work across both the Alexandra and Worcestershire Royal Hospital sites.

Job responsibilities
TEACHING
To contribute to teaching across the Undergraduate Curriculum for years 3, 4, and 5 medical students. To contribute to the teaching of medical students from University of Warwick/Three Counties Medical School contribute to the teaching and support of other medical students (such as elective students) at the discretion of the Head/Deputy Head of Academy.
To act as assessor for medical student work based placed assessments where agreed with Head/Deputy Head of Academy.
To assist with organisation, monitoring and teaching of the undergraduate teaching programme with specific focus on Obstetrics and Gynaecology
To assist in reviewing the current structure and organisation of undergraduate teaching within Obstetrics and Gynaecology to instigate appropriate modifications.
To contribute to specific teaching in the relevant specialties including simulation, master classes and induction programmes.
Act as an examiner for University of Birmingham, University of Worcester (Three counties medical school) and University of Warwick (Warwick Medical School).
Accountability, with respect to the performance of teaching duties to the Head of Academy.
The post provides the opportunity to study part-time for a clinical educational qualification, which is strongly encouraged.
CLINICAL
It is expected that the successful candidate will be allocated a minimum pro-rata number of regular sessions each week to clinical teaching for students as agreed with the Head and Deputy Head of Academy. A session is a four-hour time period. (For example, for a 24 hour/week post this would be a minimum of 3 teaching based activity sessions/per week). One session per week will be allocated to preparation, administration and leadership activities. The teaching sessions will be timetabled flexibly to accommodate the students other commitments. Candidates will be required to work across two sites, the Alexandra Hospital and Worcestershire Royal Hospital, in order to accommodate the Undergraduate Academys ability to meet medical student learning outcomes within the current training programmes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Full registration with the GMC is essential.
Candidates for the post of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinical Teaching Fellow should have completed relevant medical training up to the equivalent of ST3 or above.
The post does not currently have educational and training approval from the Regional Postgraduate Dean.
