Job summary

Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in East Grinstead is seeking a Band 7 Nutrition Nurse to enhance patient nutrition across the trust. The role involves coordinating nutrition care for head and neck patients and leading mealtime strategies in collaboration with the dietetics team.

Responsibilities

• This role covers surgical head and neck complex patients and all patients with nutritional needs; lead on protected mealtimes and NHS initiatives.

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care with the dietetic team for patients requiring enteral nutrition; ensure evidence-based care.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate patient nutrition across services.

As the band 7 Nutrition Nurse for the trust you will work closely in conjunction with the dietetic department to improve patient nutrition throughout the trust. Providing the education required for the teams in the trust. You will oversee the assessment and management of patients with complex nutritional requirements. Assisting with the staff in delivering high standards of nutrition care for our patients.

Having good communication with both internal and external stakeholders is a must. As a tertiary centre you will need to discuss directly with colleagues from other trusts.

Main duties of the job

This role will encompass both the surgical head and neck complex patients, all patients with nutritional needs, leading on protected mealtimes and any further NHS initiatives.

Education and learning for all nursing staff within the trust. To ensure that all members of staff remain competent with mealtime food distribution, and the more complex side of caring for head and neck patients and their nutritional requirements.

Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care jointly with the dietetic team for patients requiring enteral nutrition. Ensuring that the care delivered is evidence based.

Professional

• NMC registered
• At least 6 months experience as a Band 6 senior staff nurse

Experience

• Evidence of specialist studies related to nutrition and hydration
• Experience with patients undergoing PEG/ RIG/ JEJ feeding
• Experience of working with Multi disciplinary teams
• Experience with plastic, burns and head and neck patients

Knowledge

• Evidence of using a CI approach to improve patients pathways
• Ability to lead research/ undertake audit and change practice as required
