JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

Penn State Extension, Berks County, is seeking a Nutrition Education Adviser (NEA). This position will recruit and teach low-income program participants in their assigned service area, providing research-based knowledge and skills, both in groups and individually. The goal is to help participants use their limited resources to achieve a healthy diet and lifestyle for themselves and their families, following USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, using approved state curricula.

Responsibilities include :

  • Teach research-based education on healthful food selection, meal planning, food preparation, shopping, storage, food safety, and physical activity to appropriate audiences.
  • Recruit participants within the base county and surrounding areas, including low-income youth, pregnant women, families with young children, and other members of the SNAP-eligible population.
  • Collect evaluation data from participants to demonstrate program impact to federal funding agencies.
  • Report to the supervising educator on training, planning, program delivery, communication, evaluation, and reporting of activities.

Education and Experience :

This position will be hired as a Nutrition Education Adviser Support or Intermediate Support, depending on the candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Support positions typically require a High School Diploma or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Intermediate Support positions require an associate's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education beyond these requirements is not considered an advantage. Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates are preferred.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. The candidate must operate a motor vehicle as part of job duties; a valid driver’s license and successful motor vehicle records check are required.

The pay range for this position, including all grades, will be provided during the hiring process.

CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS :

Penn State publishes an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASR) in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act and Pennsylvania law. The ASR includes crime statistics and security policies, and is available for review.

Employment requires successful completion of background checks in accordance with university policies.
