Job description

Nurture Primary Teacher - Victoria Drive Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
About Us

Required September 2025

Are you a dedicated, creative, and experienced Primary teacher who can inspire pupils to achieve their full potential? Due to increasing demand, we are seeking an additional

Nurture Teacher to join our committed and professional staff team.

We are looking to recruit a nurturing teacher with a strong pedagogical understanding of how to support pupils in developing positive relationships, self-confidence, resilience, and creativity. We wish to appoint a kind-hearted primary teacher with an outstanding understanding of how to re-engage pupils with learning, manage challenging behaviour, and believe in the power of play.

Victoria Drive is an “Outstanding” and inspiring Primary Pupil Referral Unit that prides itself on a highly effective partnership with Wandsworth Primary Schools. It uses a therapeutic, nurturing approach to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMHD). The core objective is to sustain very low levels of exclusion by promoting inclusion and strengthening schools’ capacity to meet pupils’ needs.

The pupils’ interests, the National Curriculum, and the Boxall Profile will inform your planning and delivery. We actively promote a holistic and trauma-informed approach to support our pupils, aiming for meaningful outcomes, raised achievement, and improved self-esteem. You will have high emotional intelligence, enabling you to build trusting relationships with parents and engage in non-judgemental, reflective conversations. Understanding that positive attachments are at the core of student success is essential.

Our teachers have considerable autonomy to plan a relevant and engaging curriculum for small groups of up to six students. Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning underpin the curriculum. Frequent off-site learning opportunities and outdoor activities are encouraged to broaden students’ horizons and make learning real and relevant. Teachers also plan and supervise social times, creating a safe, homely atmosphere where students learn essential social skills.

A strong administrative background and knowledge of the SEND process—Assess, Plan, Do, Review—are desirable, as contributing to referrals, assessments, and progress reports are integral to this role.

The successful candidate will need resilience and a commitment to teamwork to support vulnerable children. There will also be opportunities to support children in mainstream schools. If you are eager to work in a supportive environment where building meaningful relationships with students in small groups is valued, Victoria Drive would love to hear from you.

We offer a generous allocation of PPA and meeting time, high-quality CPD, and opportunities for reflective practice, recognizing the importance of investing in our staff to enhance students’ educational experiences.

We understand that teaching in Alternative Provision may be new to some; we encourage visits to see if this environment suits you. Please contact the School Business Manager, Sarah Parmenter, to arrange a visit.

Application Process: An application form, job description, and person specification can be downloaded below.

Victoria Drive PRU is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to have DBS clearance prior to starting work. We do not accept CVs for applications.
