Nursing Auxiliary

The Nursing Auxiliary playsa crucial role in supporting the efficient and effective operation of theUrgent Treatment Centre (UTC). This role involves a wide range ofresponsibilities, including assisting qualified clinical staff, providingadministrative support, and ensuring patient safety and well-being in afast-paced environment.
Main duties of the job
- To work as a member of the urgent treatment centre (UTC) team and to establish and maintain the relationships within the team and across relevant teams in organisation.
- To support qualified staff in the management and execution of clinical practice
- To promote equality of care and non-discriminatory practice, acknowledging a patient's personal beliefs and identity
- To ensure that clinical information is passed to the appropriate member of the team
- To support patients and relatives in adjusting to the changed circumstances caused by illness and injury
- Provide reception cover to deliver a professional, confidential and efficient reception and follow-up service to patients attending the Urgent Treatment Centre, and provide clerical/administrative support.
- To work with the medicines management team to support in the safety of consumables and medicines located at the UTC sites.

The Partnership of East London Cooperatives Limited (PELC), is a non-profit member-based organisation delivering urgent care to a population of over 2 million people in North East London at four Urgent Treatment centres located at the following hospitals:
- King George Hospital in Goodmayes,
- Barking Hospital in Barking, and
- Harold Wood Polyclinic in Harold Wood.
PELC also provides Out of Hours Home Visiting and an Outreach service to the homeless community in the boroughs we serve. All our services are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
PELCs membership is drawn from GPs, health professionals, patient representatives, and staff in the boroughs we serve-Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge. The organisation reinvests all profits into improving its services and has no shareholders.
Job responsibilities
- Assisting qualified nursing staff withpatient assessments, triage, and treatment procedures.
- Monitoring patient vital signs andreporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Providing basic patient support,including emotional support and reassurance.
- Ensuring patient privacy, dignity, andconfidentiality.
- Assisting with minor procedures, suchas wound dressing and medication administration, under the directsupervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
Administrative Support:
- Providing reception and clericalsupport, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, andmaintaining patient records.
- Assisting with the management ofmedical supplies and equipment.
- Preparing and maintaining patientenvironments.
- Assisting with the coordination ofpatient flow within the UTC.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhering to NHS policies and proceduresrelated to infection control, safeguarding, and health and safety.
- Following safe moving and handlingtechniques.
- Participating in mandatory training anddevelopment activities.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevantUTC protocols and guidelines.
Emergency Response:
- Responding to emergency situation asneeded, including assisting with CPR and administering emergencymedications.
- Following emergency protocols andprocedures.
- Collaborating with themultidisciplinary team to ensure timely and effective patient care.
Quality Improvement:
- Participating in quality improvementinitiatives and audits.
- Identifying and reporting any issues orconcerns related to patient care.
- Suggesting ways to improve theefficiency and effectiveness of the UTC.
Person Specification
Experience
- At least 6-12 months of experience working as a nursing auxiliary or in a similar healthcare role
- Previous experience in a conflict management and violence/aggression training program
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant healthcare field
- NVQ Level 3 Healthcare
