Job description

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is seeking a Nursing Associate to join our Older Adult Mental Health Inpatient service on Woodland Ward.

We can offer a full-time 12-month fixed-term position. Our working patterns are 3-4 long days/night (07:30-20:00/19:30-08:00) across a four-week period, including weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

Role Requirements

  • We welcome newly qualified Nurse Associates and experienced Nurse Associates.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels.
  • An enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative thinker to become part of the Older Adult inpatient service.
  • The ability to work autonomously, managing your own named patients, evaluating a plan of care.
  • The ability to problem-solve, delegate, co-ordinate, and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, along with a flexible and responsive approach.

Day to Day elements

Close working with all members of the Multi-disciplinary Team.

Undertaking mental health needs assessments.

Assessment and Management of risk.

Liaising with other services, such as the community mental health team, Hospital at Home Team, Mental Health Liaison Team, and the Acute Trust.

Effective assessment through SBAR and care planning.

Supervising junior staff, including students.

Person Specification
Knowledge
  • NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Knowledge of the ageing process and related mental and physical health problems.
  • Knowledge of the individual's responsibility towards health and safety.
  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in the context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in both verbal and written formats.
