Position Summary

The Nursing Assistant performs general patient care under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with hygiene, mobility, hydration, elimination, and nutritional needs.
• Provide routine treatments and maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient environment.
• Ensure safety and security of patients, families, self, and healthcare team members.
• Protect patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
• Follow standard precautions, including hand hygiene between patient interactions.
• Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
• Record vital signs and other patient data as directed.
• Accurately document patient information according to hospital policies.
• Communicate pertinent patient information and safety concerns to the RN and team.
• Participate in handoff reports and hourly rounding.
• Provide compassionate service to patients, families, and team members.
• Demonstrate competency in assigned tasks and skills.
• Keep the nursing unit clean, safe, and organized.
• Handle incoming calls, patient call lights, and guest requests.
• Transport items, equipment, blood products, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) across the facility.
• Maintain regular attendance in accordance with policies and standards.
• Comply with all hospital policies and participate in planned changes and performance improvement activities.
• Be aware of legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory standards.
• Use resources efficiently and attend required meetings and training.
• Provide age-appropriate care based on growth and development principles.

Qualifications

Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification: BLS/Healthcare Provider certification within 30 days of hire.
