Job description

Cardiothoracic theatres are seeking Nursing Assistants to join our team within the 8 Cardiac and thoracic theatres, Anaesthetic rooms, and the recovery area. We specialise in Cardiac and thoracic Surgery, including transplants and Da Vinci Robotic lung Surgery.

The ideal applicant should have a passion for helping others and demonstrate compassion in patient care. Your support and hands-on work will contribute to a positive hospital experience for patients and provide you with job satisfaction, knowing your dedication makes a difference.

Your role will be that of a Nursing Assistant supporting qualified theatre practitioners.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Be
  • Ensuring equipment is available for surgeons and scrub practitioners, supporting them during procedures.
  • Accurately completing patient paperwork and updating the Hive computer system promptly.
  • Participating in theatre team briefs and WHO checklists for safer surgery.
  • Moving and handling heavy loads such as large trays, equipment, and patient transfers.
  • Advocating for patients by maintaining privacy and dignity.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in line with Trust policies on Health and Safety and Infection Prevention.
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently as needed.
  • Anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
  • Promoting health and safety standards, including risk identification and safe work practices.
  • Providing high standards of infection control using appropriate techniques.
  • Contributing to effective team working to achieve shared goals.
