Job description
Nursing Assistant- Apprenticeship Opportunity

Closing date: 29 October 2025

Windermere Lodge is a 20-bed acute assessment ward for people who present with mental health disorders. We provide a service for patients with functional and organic diagnoses or working diagnosis in addition to our frailty pathway. The ward is positive and proactive in providing care to patients who are presenting with complex mental health needs and physical co‑morbidities, working in collaboration with other services, such as Adult Acute Mental Health Services, Psychology Services and Palliative care teams.

If you don't already have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant subject, RDaSH are offering this post alongside the opportunity for you to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification relevant to your role.

As an apprentice within RDaSH you will be given the opportunity to gain experience, learn work‑related skills and obtain all the tools needed to thrive.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Around 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying. This leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Whether you already work for us or are joining the Trust and NHS for the first time, apprenticeships can help you to develop the skills, knowledge and know‑how in order to embark on a successful and fulfilling career within the health service.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen on our inpatient assessment ward for new staff to join the team. We would welcome applicants who are enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated to deliver high standards of person‑centred care to our patients. In return we can offer the successful candidates clinical supervision and reflective practice groups, along with training and development opportunities and career planning.

Minimum requirements are experience of working in a mental health/Frailty setting, extensive communication skills and IT literacy.

  • To provide high quality care as detailed in the patient care plans under the supervision of a registered nurse
  • To communicate effectively with the Nurse in Charge on all clinical matters
  • Provide care for patients' physical and psychological needs, taking into account personal preferences and choices (to include escort duties)
  • To undertake clinical duties as requested and within own competence
  • Privacy and dignity to be maintained at all times for patients and their carers
  • Maintain a clean, pleasant, tidy ward environment
  • Help patients to participate in social and recreational activities
  • Be involved in improving the quality of care for patients
  • Record aspects of care given as per care plan accurately
  • To operate within the policies and procedures of Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust
