Job overview

We are seeking a Band 3 Registered Nurse to come and join our enthusiastic, friendly and well supported team. This is a permanent, part time position.

The Surgical Ambulatory care receiving unit (SACRU) is an ACP led same day emergency care assessment unit at Wythenshawe Hospital. It was created to provide a more enhanced patient focused service and reduce the amount of GP referrals coming into ED. It helps to facilitate accelerated ward discharges and reduce the amount of unnecessary general surgical admissions. This is a crucial role which will involve working alongside our ACP's helping to maintaining clinical efficiency , patient safety and ensuring a supportive environment for both staff and patients. You will possess adept communication skills, be motivated and eager to embrace variety in a fast-paced environment. You will be a band 3 HCA working within the nursing team. You need to be able to cannulate and perform venipuncture alongside undertaking vital signs observations, ECG and wound management.

Main duties of the job

Assist patients and nursing staff with the day to day day delivery of services within SACRU. Responsibilities include cannulation, venepuncture, ECG recording, monitoring and documenting vital signs, wound management, and supporting administrative duties to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of patient care.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS : Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS : Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications

• Completed the National Care Certificate if relevant
• Holds a level 3 Vocational Qualification (e.g. NVQ or Apprenticeship) in clinical health care OR Able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skill and competency to undertake band 3 clinical skills (described in JD)
• Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent
• Worked at a band 2 Nursing Assistant or equivalent
• Speciality specific training and evidence of competencies being achieved and continued development

Knowledge

• Experience working in a healthcare organisation/setting, undertaking a wide range of clinical commitments.
• Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes
• Experience of working with the multidisciplinary team.
• Experience of caring for a group of patients.
• Experience in supporting Quality Improvement audits and research and development activities.
• Experience of working in more than one speciality within a health care environment.
