Job description

Are you an experienced Nursing Assistant ready to take the next step in your career? At Seashell Trust, were a nationally recognised charity supporting children and young people with the most complex neuro-disabilities, including autism, multi-sensory impairments, and profound learning and physical disabilities. You'll be part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary Health Team working across our school, college, and residential settings to deliver truly integrated, person-centred care.

Main duties of the job

Youll help deliver high-quality, person-centred care that promotes safety, wellbeing, and independence. Under the supervision of Registered Nurses, youll carry out delegated clinical tasks such as PEG feeding, medication administration, and health monitoring. Youll also play a key role in responding to emergencies, supporting emotional wellbeing, and ensuring continuity of care through effective communication with families and professionals.

Job responsibilities

Healthcare SupportDeliver personal care and assist with delegated clinical procedures including: Epilepsy care (e.g., buccal midazolam), Diabetes care (BGL monitoring, insulin pens), Gastrostomy and PEG feeding, Tracheostomy care (basic/emergency), Oxygen use and nebulisers, Intermittent catheterisationAdminister prescribed medication and support routine health monitoring (BP, weights, fluid/bowel charts).Provide emotional and psychological support to students and families.Emergency ResponseRespond to medical emergencies, including administering emergency medication and calling for ambulance services as needed.Use clinical judgment to escalate cases of concern (e.g. head injury, clinical deterioration).Training and SupervisionSupport training and competency assessments of staff in delegated procedures.Provide supervision and mentorship to students, agency nurses, and support staff.Communication and DocumentationMaintain accurate records including MAR charts and handovers.Communicate effectively with internal teams, families, and external professionals.Participate in audits, care plan reviews, and case conferences.Health Promotion and Risk ManagementAssist with immunisation and health promotion programmes.Ensure safe medication handling, storage, and disposal.Support the Trusts clinical governance and risk assessment procedures.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex communication needs who can also have complex health and medical needs
  • Experience of delivering/supporting training to colleagues around health care
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Experience of working in an education based environment
  • Experience of working with families and carers
  • In depth experience of working with children/young people with complex health needs/palliative care
Skills and knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal skills able to build positive relationships with students, families, managers and staff
