Job summary

Refresh Recruitment Ltd is assisting a welcoming nursery in Surbiton to appoint a confident Third in Charge. This is a senior room-based role for an experienced Early Years professional looking to progress to nursery management.

You will support Room Leaders and the management team to maintain high standards of care, learning and safeguarding. You must hold a full Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years and have experience in an Early Years setting, with knowledge of the EYFS and strong

Qualifications

• Experience in Early Years/nursery, ideally with senior responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of the EYFS.
• Experience observing, assessing and planning for children's learning.
• Must have right to work in the UK.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Support Room Leaders and Practitioners in effective management of their rooms.
• Help create a safe, engaging environment meeting each child’s needs.
• Ensure EYFS requirements are met.
• Monitor and improve the quality of childcare practice.
• Build positive relationships with children, parents, carers and colleagues.
• Support staff development and review development targets.
• Take on playroom and additional management responsibilities as required.
• Support the nursery in maintaining budgets and controlling costs.
• Promote high standards of safeguarding, care and early years education.

Hours: 40 hours over Monday to Friday either 4 or 5 days per week

We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate and enthusiastic Third in Charge to join a welcoming nursery team in Surbiton. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Room Leader who is looking to progress into a more senior position. You’ll play an important role in supporting the nursery management team while helping to ensure children receive exceptional care, education and opportunities to thrive.

Please note: You must hold a full and relevant Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years (or equivalent) to be considered for this position.

The Role

As Third in Charge, you will support Room Leaders and Early Years Practitioners with the day-to-day running of the nursery, helping to maintain high standards of care, learning and safeguarding.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting Room Leaders and Practitioners in the effective management of their rooms.
• Helping to create a safe, engaging and nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of every child.
• Ensuring nursery practice and provision meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
• Monitoring, evaluating and helping to continuously improve the quality of childcare practice.
• Building positive and professional relationships with children, parents, carers and colleagues.
• Supporting and developing staff, including helping to agree and review individual development targets.
• Taking on playroom and additional management responsibilities when required.
• Supporting the nursery in maintaining agreed budgets and controlling costs.
• Promoting consistently high standards of safeguarding, care and early years education.

What We’re Looking For

To be successful, you will need:

• A full and relevant Level 3 Childcare/Early Years qualification or equivalent.
• Previous experience working within an Early Years or nursery environment, ideally with Room Leader or senior responsibilities.
• Good knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
• Experience observing, assessing and planning for children's learning and development.
• The right to work in the UK.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• A genuine passion for supporting children to learn, develop and thrive.
