Job summary

Grendon Underwood School is seeking a dedicated role to support the pupil within the Early Years framework, helping each child develop socially, physically, psychologically and culturally. The position involves assisting in planning stimulating play and educational activities while maintaining a safe, caring environment.

You will observe and assess progress, foster independence, and contribute to home–school links.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering the Early Years Framework and help each child develop socially, physically, psychologically and culturally.
• Share responsibility for creating a stimulating, caring environment with attention to Health and Safety.
• Participate in planning and organising appropriate play and educational activities.
• Encourage transitions from dependence to independence and support child autonomy.
• Observe, assess and contribute to discussions about each child’s progress.
• Stay informed about current trends in education and attend relevant courses when possible.
• Collaborate with the SENco and other staff to support the child’s individual development indoors and outdoors.

Job description

Supporting the pupil:

• To effectively deliver the Early Years Framework andensure that each child’s potential is fully developed in a social, physical,psychological and cultural sense and their development both as an individualand as a member of a group, is paramount at all times.
• To share responsibility for the preparation of astimulating and caring environment, with due regard to all aspects of Healthand Safety and takes into account the interests of the children.
• To participate in planning and organising appropriate playand educational activities.
• Enable children to make the transition from dependence toindependence.
• Enable children to make choices, develop their own ideasand take responsibility for their own actions.
• To observe, assess and contribute to any discussions about eachchild’s progress.
• To be aware of own practice and keeping up with currenttrends in education.
• Attending relevant courses when possible, in accordancewith priorities in the School Development Plan.
• In carrying out the tasks in this job description you havea duty (under Health & Safety legislation) to take reasonable care for thehealth and safety of yourself and that of others. This implies taking positivesteps to monitor and maintain a safe and secure working environment
• To continuously develop your own role, takingresponsibility for identifying and addressing training and development needs.

Supporting the School:

• Where appropriate to foster links between home and school
• To liaise, consult and advise with other members of theteam and outside agencies, regarding the child’s progress
• To contribute to review meetings, where appropriate
• To participate in relevant professional development
• To work actively to overcome and prevent discrimination on the groundsof race, religion, gender, disability, sexuality and status.
• To be aware of and follow the school’s policies andprocedures
• To maintain confidentiality about home – school / pupil-teacher/ school – work matters
• To complete anyother relevant tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Supporting the SEN:

• To help and support the SENco in delivering a suitableprogramme of activities for the child’s individual development, both indoorsand out.
• To assist in making resources to support activities thathave been advised by the SENco/outside agencies
• To provide feedback about the child’s progress to theSENco, parents and outside agencies
