Do you have a passion for making education inclusive and accessible for all children? Are you motivated to support young learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) as they take their first steps into school life? If so, this is the role for you.

About the Role:
Teaching Personnel is proud to be working with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Newport that is preparing to welcome a new intake of learners. We are seeking compassionate and proactive Nursery and Reception Teaching Assistants to join the team and provide dedicated support to children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)—particularly those with ALN.

Children with ALN may face challenges in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, sensory processing, or social interaction. Your role will be to help remove these barriers to learning by providing structured, consistent, and sensitive support tailored to their unique needs.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide individualised support for children with ALN, including those with:
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
• Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties
• Developmental Delay or Sensory Processing issues

• Assist in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive activities that encourage participation and build core learning skills
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement and monitor Individual Development Plans (IDPs) or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
• Create a consistent, nurturing environment that helps children feel safe, understood, and valued
• Support children in building positive routines, managing emotions, and developing confidence
• Use specialist strategies and interventions to promote learning, communication, and emotional wellbeing

About You:
• You care deeply about inclusion and supporting all children to reach their potential
• You are patient, resilient, and able to adapt your approach to meet individual needs
• You are a team player, able to communicate effectively with staff and families
• Experience supporting children with ALN is highly desirable—but if you have the right mindset, we offer full training and guidance
• You have a solid understanding of the EYFS curriculum and how to support early development through play-based learning

What You’ll Need:
• EWC (Education Workforce Council) registration
• A valid Child-Only DBS on the Update Service
• Two professional references from the last 24 months

Why This Role Is So Important:
Early intervention is key for children with ALN. As a Teaching Assistant in this role, you will not only be helping them succeed in the classroom—you’ll also be shaping their confidence, relationships, and future learning potential from the very beginning of their educational journey.

Why Work with Us?
• Be part of a school that values inclusion, support, and community
• Access to professional development and specialist training
• Flexible working patterns and ongoing career support from Teaching Personnel
• Make a real, lasting impact in the lives of children and their families
