To manage the nursery and associated childcare provision within Once Upon a Time Day Nurseries policies and procedures, Local Authority Policies and procedures, and all relevant legislation. To create a safe, warm, and stimulating environment for all those who use Once Upon a Time services. To work as part of a team to assist in providing a safe, secure, and stimulating environment for children. To work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers, and other multi-professionals. To be committed to ensuring safeguarding and creating an inclusive environment.
Main Responsibilities: Children’s care, learning and play
- Support practitioners in meeting the needs of individual children and families, ensuring children’s basic needs are always met, including good hygiene routines, nappies, meals encouraging good nutrition, planning, and assessment.
- Assist the staff team in setting up a safe and stimulating environment for children, ensuring a child-centred approach with a play-based learning environment.
- Promote positive attitudes and behaviour by providing a non-discriminatory environment that values and respects each child and family, considering SEN, safeguarding procedures, and legislation.
- Encourage parental involvement through consultations, events, and partnership in children’s learning, maintaining daily communication with parents.
- Report accidents or health and safety issues, and be vigilant of risks that may cause harm to children.
- Implement and adhere to health and safety guidelines, including cleaning and sterilising duties to reduce infection spread.
Staff Management
- Lead and support nursery staff, students, and voluntary workers, ensuring supervision, identifying training needs, and conducting appraisals and observations.
- Organise staff, room, and planning meetings outside nursery hours.
- Support appointed persons in their roles, including SENCO and Behaviour Management Coordinator, and cover in their absence.
- Participate in recruitment and ensure staffing meets statutory ratios, supporting team development.
General Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the nursery.
- Implement and review nursery policies and procedures annually, ensuring compliance with legislation and welfare requirements.
- Maintain records, inventories, reports, and correspondence related to nursery operations.
- Support children’s development by sharing good practice and fostering a reliable team environment.
- Organise nursery events involving parents and carers.
- Ensure the EYFS curriculum is implemented and monitored for all children aged 0-5 years.
- Collaborate with external agencies, local authorities, and multi-professional teams to support children and families.
- Maintain effective parent liaison systems and oversee the nursery’s upkeep and maintenance.
- Assist with financial duties, including fee collection, budgeting, and marketing to maximize occupancy and profitability.
- Cover at other nursery settings as required and work extra hours when needed, with time-in-lieu provided.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a nursery or childcare setting.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in English communication, both verbal and written.
- Experience working across various age groups is desirable.
- Level 3 or above qualification in Early Years.
- Ability to drive initiatives that improve nursery operations and learning environments.
