About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Nursery Deputy Manager to support the effective day-to-day running of our nursery. The successful candidate will work closely with the Nursery Manager to ensure high standards of care, education, and safety, while creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for all children.

The Deputy will be responsible for leading the toddler room and will act as the nursery SENDCo, though this role will mostly be supernumerary.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
  • Support the Nursery Manager in overseeing the daily operations.
  • Act as the person in charge in the Manager's absence.
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise staff, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Assist with staff rotas to ensure ratios and cover are maintained.
Safeguarding & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with EYFS statutory requirements.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children at all times.
  • Maintain adherence to Ofsted regulations and all relevant legislation.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records, policies, and procedures.
Curriculum & Learning
  • Work with the team to deliver a high-quality EYFS curriculum.
  • Support planning, observation, and assessment of children's development.
  • Ensure inclusive practice for all children, including those with additional needs.
  • Build strong, positive relationships to support children's learning.
Parent & Community Partnerships
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers.
  • Support parent consultations, progress reports, and nursery events.
  • Represent the nursery positively within the local community.
Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Assist in monitoring budgets, resources, and supplies.
  • Ensure health & safety, risk assessments, and cleanliness standards are met.
  • Contribute to staff recruitment, induction, and performance reviews.
Essential Requirements
  • Level 3 (or above) qualification in Childcare/Early Years (e.g., NVQ, CACHE, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an Early Years setting.
  • Strong understanding of the EYFS framework and Ofsted requirements.
  • Proven leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Genuine passion for childcare and supporting children's development.
  • Up-to-date Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, and enhanced DBS check.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience as a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, or Deputy Manager.
  • Knowledge of SEND and inclusive practice.
  • Experience in staff development and training.
  • Familiarity with nursery management software or digital learning journals.
