Job description

Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner will plan, direct, and evaluate patient health care in a Methadone/Suboxone Treatment program. Other duties include: conducting follow-up consultations, adjustment of medical dosages, ordering and review of lab work and making referrals. Ideal candidates would have working knowledge of opioid addiction. The Nurse Practitioner will also work with the medical director in the care and treatment of the patients.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Meets with new patients to orient them about services, to identify needs, and to suggest local physicians and services.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Acts as a resource person for decisions, planning, and policies affecting the health of patients and staff.
  • Maintains outpatient records. Records statistics and conducts research as deemed necessary by institution. Compiles reports concerning ambulatory care at facility.
  • Collaborates with staff to identify patients' needs and to help develop plan to meet these needs.

Education and Experience:
  • Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.
  • Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts.
  • Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state.
  • Because of the nature of responsibilities, it is preferable to have experience in counseling and teaching and have a master's degree.
Physical:
  • Frequently sitting at desk or computer while typing, completing paperwork, or meeting patients.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying, paperwork, files, office supplies, up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional push/pull exerting up to 5-10 lbs. force, opening doors, file drawers, pushing files in drawers
  • Occasional kneeling/crouching and ability to reach lower file drawers, stretching to store or retrieving materials.
Mental:

Position requires constant mental alertness, attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy required. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and follow-through on all assignments. Must be able to work independently and be able to use sound judgment in critical clinical decisions.
