The role of a qualified practitioner involves completing holistic assessment of need, risk assessment & management, delivering evidence-based treatment & interventions, admission/discharge, coaching & supervising junior colleagues, attending and leading meetings (including MDTs, reviews, team meetings, etc.), maintaining the ward environments, supporting the friends/families of people using services, and contributing to the safe and effective delivery of the service whilst ensuring that the people who use our services are always involved and at the heart of any decision-making. Through robust implementation of policy and compliance with the appropriate legal frameworks, this role truly contributes to improving the lives of the people accessing our services.

Provide nursing care to patients, having knowledge of national and local policies and procedures, in order to maintain high standards of care.
Directly support staff as appropriate in the provision of care for the service user providing supervision and support as necessary.
Assist in the supervision and assessment of junior staff.
Provide and receive complex, sensitive, and at times, contentious, information around service users mental health needs and requirements.
Communicate with service users, their family, and carers, around needs and care programmes, whilst overcoming their possible barriers to understand by using persuasive and negotiating skills.
Demonstrate procedures to qualified and unqualified staff by means of instructions and supervision.
Participate in the full range of administrative responsibilities.
Plan and organise workloads for staff within the area to include allocation of staff, planning patient care and groups etc.
Maintain patient records accurately and promptly and be able to give and receive nursing care reports, including knowledge of, and the ability to use, our computer database system (SystmOne).
Assist in maintaining the safe custody of drugs in accordance with our policies and procedures.
Handle cash and valuables belonging to the service user within policy and guidance.
Assist in providing a safe environment for the safety and welfare of service users and staff by being aware of the following: (1) Health and Safety at Work Act (2) Fire Prevention and Management (3) Infection Control Policy (4) COSHH.
Report all accidents and complaints and also all faulty equipment in line with Navigo's policies and guidelines and provide written reports when appropriate.
Be aware of developments in nursing by attending continuing education courses and study days and be self-motivated with regards to personal development.
Assist as appropriate in the support and counselling of service users and relatives.
Be involved within clinical supervision sessions with peers and superiors.
Contribute to the maintenance of a good clinical climate for learners and assist in the in-service training for ward staff.
Keep up to date with current research in nursing and when necessary participate in research projects.
Rotate between day and night duty, as the service need demands.
Carry out audits to improve areas of work within the service (in-patient, home treatment etc).
At times, when service need demands, work in other areas of the service.
Provide specific training/mentorship to students.
