Job description

We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner/ANP to join our friendly team based at Walford Mill Medical Centre in Wimborne, Dorset. This position is to work 2 afternoons per week on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon to dovetail with our existing Nurse Practitioner workforce providing consistent access for patients to a Nurse Practitioner across the week.

Main duties of the job

This role is to assess and treat patients with a variety of illness and acute conditions, making the relevant referrals and investigations appropriate to their needs and undertaking confident prescribing and follow up of own results and communications. This role will be supported by a team of General Practitioners however the post holder will need to be able to make independent assessments and decisions.

Job responsibilities

Job responsibilities:

Diagnosing and treating patients presenting with minor illness

  • Triage and treat patients wishing to see a health care professional, both via telephone and face to face.
  • Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments, with referral to other members of the primary and secondary care health teams as necessary.
  • Prescribe confidently for a range of areas commonly seen in primary care.
  • Follow up investigations and actions from patient generated work.
  • Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence, and to acknowledge limitations.

The practice may also, on occasions, require you to undertake general nursing duties in accordance with your skill and competence level.Administration and professional responsibilities

  • Maintain registration with the NMC and independent prescriber qualification.
  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
  • Ensure appropriate items of service claims are made accurately
  • Ensure appropriate coded entries are made for reports and audit
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
  • Restocking and maintenance of clinical areas and consulting rooms as required.
  • Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients records
  • Maintain CPD to ensure appropriate decision making in relation to local and national guidelines.
