Job summary

Swansea Bay University Health Board is seeking a Care Group Nurse Director to provide senior clinical and professional leadership for nursing and midwifery across Medicine, Women, Children, Young People and Families, and Integrated Community Services. The post requires Masters-level expertise, NMC registration and a track record in NHS leadership.

The role includes joint accountability for quality, safety and patient experience, with responsibility for staffing, governance and service design

Qualifications

• Masters qualification or equivalent in-depth professional knowledge.
• NMC registration with appropriate field-specific registration.
• Significant senior leadership experience in NHS or equivalent, including strategic planning and development.
• Experience implementing quality management systems covering quality control, assurance, planning and improvement.
• Experience engaging diverse stakeholders and partners with influence and engagement.

Responsibilities

• Lead service transformation and sustainability, contributing to strategic and operational plans.
• Design services to be responsive, efficient and aligned with population health needs and quality standards.
• Monitor performance to drive continuous improvement and system-wide impact.
• Share joint accountability for quality, safety and patient experience within the leadership team.
• Provide strategic, operational and professional leadership for nursing and midwifery across the Care Group.
• Be clinically accountable for high-quality, safe and compassionate care prioritising patients and families.
• Lead clinical governance and promote learning and improvement.
• Ensure patient, family and carer voices shape service design and delivery.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement, learning and compassionate leadership, including staff wellbeing.
• Regulate professional practice of all NMC registrants and oversee workforce development.
• Maintain safe staffing levels in line with legislation and service standards.
