A leading healthcare provider in Middlesbrough is seeking a Nurse Associate to join its dedicated Lymphoedema Service team. This role involves providing holistic care and education for patients with lymphoedema, applying the latest best practices, and supporting a collaborative multi-disciplinary team. Ideal candidates will have a background in nursing, a commitment to professional training, and the ability to deliver high-quality, person-centred care in various clinical settings.
The Lymphoedema Service at Teesside Hospice provides careand treatment across Tees Valley and North Yorkshire. We are a practitionerlead service providing assessment, education and treatment to patients withPrimary and Secondary Lymphoedema, as well as Lipoedema.
We provide our service in clinics, patients homes, carehomes and GP surgeries. We work closely with community staff.
Experience in lymphoedema is not essential but acommitment and willingness to complete relevant training and work well in ateam providing a high standard of person-centred care is required.
The Nurse Associate isresponsible for acquiring and maintaining competence in current lymphoedemamanagement in accordance with the British Lymphology Society (BLS) guidelinesand International Best Practice for the management of mild to moderate lymphoedema.
This will include theability to educate patients and carers towards self-management in thecornerstones of lymphoedema management (skin care, exercise, compression,simple lymphatic drainage and kinesio tape).
TheNurse Associate will work under the direction of a Lymphoedema Practitionerproviding a high standard of care for the patient and to support carers. To assist the lymphoedema clinical teamdevelopment by keeping abreast of change, involving evidence-based anddirectives from government/organisational policies.
To work within theguidelines of the BLS and International Consensus Best Practice for themanagement of patients with mild to moderate lymphoedema.
To provide holisticindividualised care to lymphoedema patients with chronic disease and lifelimiting illness.
A commitment to undertakenecessary training to achieve competencies to fulfil this role is required.
Lymphoedematheory and practice
Complete competencies in kinesio tapeapplication, lymphoedema compression bandaging, basic wound care and anunderstanding of the vascular system.

To become acompetent practitioner in mild to moderate lymphoedema and work within BLSguidelines. To be self-aware of yourlimitations in knowledge and skills, to seek guidance when appropriate fromLymphoedema Practitioners.
To be aware of thecurrent changes and influences in lymphoedema, cancer and palliative care.
Under thedirection of a Lymphoedema Practitioner, provide holistic care. Assist patient and carers to make informedchoices and decisions in relation to their treatment.
Implement thecornerstones of lymphoedema self-management, monitoring and recording theeffects of these interactions through structured evaluations.
To provideemotional and psychological support to lymphoedema patients with chronicdisease and life limiting illness.
To liaise with andprovide relevant information to other members of the MDT, within TeessideHospice and the outside wider team.
Workcollaboratively with TVN, District Nursing and Practice Nurse team. Provide support as required under thedirection of the Lymphoedema Practitioner.
Ensure alldocumentation and patient records are completed in a professional and timelymanner.
Manage timeeffectively to ensure clinic/home visits run efficiently and in a timelymanner.
Under thedirection of the Lymphoedema Practitioner provide necessary care to patientswith mild to moderate lymphoedema in clinics, home, care homes and GPsurgeries as required. (Follow loneworker policy)
Support SeniorLymphoedema Practitioners with patient education groups.
Support SeniorLymphoedema Practitioners to provide education sessions to Teesside Hospicestaff and wider health care professionals to highlight and educate staff onlymphoedema management.
To participate inClinical Governance including audit and risk management to improvepractice. An allocated area of sharedresponsibility/practice development will be highlighted.
Attend ClinicalSupervision, clinical team meetings and lymphoedema team meetings.
To gain anawareness of the clinic budget and KPI targets. Ensure cost effective use of resources andsupport senior Lymphoedema Practitioners to ensure KPI targets are achieved.
To support alllymphoedema team including volunteers to ensure that patients receive a highstandard of care and expert service.
To ensure a highstandard of patient confidentiality is maintained.
To undertakeappropriate further education that will meet both own needs and theorganisation needs. To be responsiblefor maintaining a personal awareness of professional developments inlymphoedema, chronic illness and palliative care.
To comply with allmandatory training and be familiar with Teesside Hospice policies andprocedures.
To ensure thepromotion of safety, wellbeing and interests of patients, staff and visitors.
