Job summary

Newhall Surgery is seeking a part-time Nursing Associate (30 hours per week) to join our dedicated nursing team. This fixed-term role runs for 12 months to cover maternity leave, with support from GP Partners and the wider clinical team.

The successful candidate will have post-registration Primary Care experience and be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment, delivering health checks, vaccinations, phlebotomy, and general health advice within NHS guidelines.

Job summary

Newhall Surgery is looking for a part-time (30 hours) dynamic and motivated Nursing Associate to join our friendly Nursing Team. (Start date November 2026). The successful candidate will have previous experience of working within Primary Care as a Nursing Associate preferably with a working knowledge and experience of NHS Health Checks, ECGs, blood pressures, phlebotomy, foot checks, urine analysis, spirometry, ear syringing, cervical cytology, wound care, general health and lifestyle advice, long term conditions, vaccinations, injections and immunisations.

Main duties of the job

This is a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months to cover maternity leave within our Nursing team which includes an Advanced Clinical Practitioner/Nurse Manager, a Practice Nurse, 2 Nursing Associates, a GP Assistant and a Health Care Assistant and is supported by our GP Partners, Management Team and other clinicians.

About us

Newhall Surgery has a list size of approximately 11,400 patients. We have an active Patient Participation Group and endeavour to liaise well within the local community. We are active on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and have good patient reviews.

Our clinical staff consists of 3 GP Partners, 1 Nurse Partner, 6 GPs, GP Registrars, Foundation Year 2 Doctors plus a dedicated Nursing Team, Pharmacy Team and 2 Patient Care Coordinators.

We also have committed administrative, secretarial and care navigation members, plus our dedicated and professional Management Team which consists of a Business Manager, Practice Manager, Patient Services Team Leader and two Management Assistants.

We are a friendly Practice who believe that communication, team working, well-being and learning are vital to the success of our organisation. We have two formal 'get togethers' per year with other socials to help support our internal communication processes and the feeling of 'family' within the organisation, plus monthly training events.

The Partners are very supportive of staff and place a high value on their well-being, learning and development.

We are proud to have been awarded a rating of 'Good' at our recent CQC Inspection.

Experience

Post registration experience in Primary Care

Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams under appropriate supervision and autonomously

Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information

Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of others and own clinical practice

Interpreting and implementing local and national policies, agendas for health

Maintenance of up to date skills, knowledge and understanding and on-going competence in all aspects of Primary Care

Experience of SystmOne (or equivalent) Patient Management System

Skills / Knowledge

Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the Practice and how the role may contribute to service development

Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code

Knowledge of when to seek advice and elevate to the appropriate professional for expert help and guidance

Understand requirements for NMC professional revalidation

Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans

Ability to assess and manage patient risk effectively and safely in accordance with policies/procedures/protocols/legislation and the needs of the patient and to refer when clinically appropriate using agreed pathways

Excellent ICT skills, familiar with GP clinical systems and with experience of using a range of programs and software including SystmOne, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and the internet

Excellent Interpersonal skills and strong communication skills

Able to engage and communicate with individuals and groups, both on a face to face basis and in writing

A conscientious and reflective clinical practitioner

Excellent time management skills and proven ability to prioritise workload

Confident in the accurate analysis of date and information and identifying implications for the individual patient and impact on care plan
