Job Description

The Nuclear Safety Engineering Lead will work collaboratively with the customer to support the development and modification of safety cases for a Nuclear Licensed Site and Dockyard. This role may include but is not limited to: providing technical advice on nuclear assessment processes and policy, delivering safety cases, acting as an intelligent customer ensuring that the outputs produced are fit for purpose and comply with statutory legislation.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support the development and delivery of Nuclear Safety Cases.
  2. Conduct or review safety assessments and analysis to build the evidence required.
  3. Review technical documentation to ensure sufficient evidence is captured in a suitable manner and compliance will be ascertained against statutory legislation.
  4. Liaise with senior customer or regulatory stakeholders and cross-functional teams and provide technical advice on safety assessment processes and policy.

Provide advice and coaching to less experienced members of the team, particularly in the specifics of safety engineering practices and processes related to operating in a Nuclear Licensed Site.

Work Experience
Qualifications & Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master's degree or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
  2. Typically 10+ years of relevant site or operational safety engineering experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., nuclear, maritime, infrastructure, oil and gas etc.) with 5+ years of relevant experience in Safety Engineering for a Nuclear Licensed Site.
  3. Proven track record in delivering safety assessments or documentation through the full lifecycle.
  4. Knowledge in safety case development, writing or contributing to comprehensive safety cases.
  5. Strong knowledge of safety analysis tools and techniques, including Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) and Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA).
  6. Knowledge of nuclear safety principles, standards and regulations.
Desirable Attributes:
  1. Good Communication skills - Makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens effectively; clarifies information as needed.
  2. Experience in development or technical coaching of less experienced engineers.

Exposure to working with regulatory bodies on high-value or safety-critical projects.
